The Wild Straw Co

The Wild Straw Co offers an eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastic and paper straws, Made 100% from vegetables, the straws are produced in a way that is kinder to the planet and its creatures.

Conceptualization and branding

The Wild Straw Co project was all-encompassing, covering everything from conceptualization and branding to product and web design. Maani’s vision: a laid-back surfer dude, connecting with community outdoors, spreading awareness about plastic and paper straw alternatives; living his dream while contributing to a healthier planet.

We began by exploring this vision in depth, and then moved into the conceptualization phase, beginning with the name itself: The Wild Straw Co. We came up with this name as we wanted something that would embody the wild nature of the mission, lifestyle and of course, the straws themselves. The logo design and branding choices were rooted in that same energy, drawing inspiration from a vintage surfer style with natural elements and colors incorporated.

Packaging

The next step was to design packaging that reflected the brand's style and incorporated a playful voice. We added the slogan, ‘Straws that suck the way they’re meant to,’ as a tongue-in-cheek nod to both the act of sipping through a straw and the shortcomings of plastic and paper alternatives. Whereas the alternatives truly ‘suck’ for the planet, these vegetable straws are designed to ‘suck’ as they’re meant to, while staying friendly to Mother Earth.

Web design

Finally, we brought The Wild Straw Co online with a custom e-commerce website. We carefully integrated the company’s brand voice and values throughout the site. I also created custom illustrations for each value, maintaining a consistent design style that echoed the brand’s close-to-Earth vibe.
